Former Senate President David Mark stepped down from the leadership of the National Assembly in June. The retired army general is still a member of the 8th session, but his role in decision making has minimised as his party became a minority.

National Assembly budgets 2003 – 2015.
For the first time in several years, the federal lawmakers agreed to cut their jumbo allocation by 23.3% to N115 billion in 2015. Unfortunately, details of how the funds were not disclosed.
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, hinted that expenses by the NASS “accounted for about 25% of the total overhead cost by the federal government”.
He also emphasised that the National Assembly under Mark perfected a curious system of “retiring” the huge allocation.
