Iconic actress, Mary Tyler Moore dies at age 80



Iconic actress Mary Tyler Moore, whose eponymous '70s sitcom helped usher in a new era for women on television is dead. Her longtime representative Mara Buxbaum, confirmed that she died on Wednesday January 25, 2017 at the age of 80.

"Today beloved icon Mary Tyler Moore passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine. A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile" she said.

wow..23-year-old Nigerian entrepreneur turned down job offer from Bill Gates' Microsoft?



Chris Kwekowe 23-year-old Nigerian entrepreneur turned down a job offer to work as a software engineer at Microsoft, owned by the richest man in the world, Bill Gates, in order to begin his own start-up in Lagos.

The Lagos State University computer science graduate proudly revealed this to Bill Gates during a television interview for Africa’s brightest young entrepreneurs in August 2016.
Kwekowe, who won the 2015 Anzisha Prize which came with a $25,000 cheque, said he rejected the offer to build up his own startup, Slatecube– a website aimed at helping other young Nigerians find jobs.

Check out the list of the new 8 universities FG just approved


The Federal government has approved the establishment of eight new universities. Minister of State for Education, Anthony Onwuka, announced this today to state house corespondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting.

According to Onwuka, the newly approved universities include Anchor University Ayobo, Lagos; Arthur Jarvis Akpabuyo University Calabar, Cross River; Clifford University Owerinta, Abia;

Cabinet reshuffle: Ambode sacks state commissioners for Tourism, Finance, and Transportation



Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode today, sacked the state commissioner for Tourism, Mr Folorunsho Folarin-Coker; Finance, Dr. Mustapha Akinkunmi and Transportation, Dr. Ekundayo Mobereola.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tunji Bello; the Governor also directed the Special Adviser, Arts and Culture to take over as the Acting Commissioner for Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Special Adviser on Transportation will take over as Acting Commissioner for Transportation while the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance takes over as the Acting Commissioner for Finance pending the appointment of new Commissioners in the respective ministries.

Footballer Izu Joseph was killed in a cultist den -Army



The Nigerian Army in Rivers state says Shooting Stars defender, Izu Joseph was killed in a raid which took place in a cultist den in Okaki village, Ahoada West local government area of the state on Sunday October 16th.

Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, the Commander, 2 Brigade Nigeria Army, Brig. Gen. Hamisu Hassan, says it was after the raid at the cultist hideout that they discovered that the person who was killed during the raid was the footballer.

Ahmadu Bello University launches first ‘Online’ MBA in Nigeria



Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has made history as the first university in the country to have a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programme accredited by NUC to be delivered in e-learning mode. Apply for it here.
Prospective students from any part of the country can now take their MBA from anywhere without the need to go to the ABU campus. Lecture videos and study materials can be accessed offline via custom tablets or Dual USB sticks on smartphones or PCs.

Submitting assignments and projects as well as interacting with lecturers, tutors and other classmates all happen via ABU’s e-learning portal online. What about exams? Those can be done in examination centers spread across all regions in Nigeria.

Shi'ites, Youths clash in Kaduna :photos



Youths In Kaduna state today clashed with members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shi'ites in Tundun Wada Local government area of the state. Unconfirmed reports say two of the Shi'ite members were killed during the clash. 

Trouble started today when the Shi'ite members tried to renovate their school that was destroyed in the local government this week. The youths in the community stopped the planned renovation, leading to a fight between both sides. Kaduna state government has placed a ban on the activities of the Islamic group in the state. More photos below...

Presidency hands over two Presidential aircrafts to the Nigerian Air Force (Photos)



The Presidency this morning handed over two Presidential Fleet aircraft to the Nigerian Air Force. This comes few days after two others were put up for sale on National dailies.

The two Helicopters are part of the 10 aircraft in Presidential Air Fleet. They were acquired on 20 Oct 2014 and 21 May 2015 respectively.

This is 2nd handover of aircraft from Presidential Air Fleet to Nigerian Air Force. 1st handover was in 2015, shortly after PMB took over. The first handover of Pres Air Fleet aircraft involved two Helicopters, handed over to Air Force in 2015 to boost operations in Northeast.
